Primary School Roster Description, Rules & Aims
Team make up.
Each team will consist of 10 registered players each week. Registration forms and fees will cover all players for insurance purposes.
Match venues and team managers.
Games will be played on concrete pitches previously deemed a “safe venue” by the Games Committee. The playing area must be checked by the team managers prior to the commencement of each game.
Each team must submit a minimum of 2 approved people to organize, umpire and be responsible for their group for the season. These people are to be approved by the school that is being represented.
Home team responsibilities.
It is the responsibility of the team mentioned first on the Roster to have boundary’s marked with cones, wickets set up and any foreign objects removed from the playing area.
The home team (the team mentioned first on the Roster) will take the field first and the visitors will bat. This will save time as the home team can set up the ground and be organized to take the field minimizing time loss tossing the coin, warm ups ect.
This arrangement will only change if unforeseen circumstances or prior arrangements have been agreed to in advance.
General match description.
The game will be played on a concrete wicket between two teams consisting of 10 registered players per team.
Quick change-overs and efficiency will add to the enjoyment for participants and spectators of game.
4 overs will be bowled from the same end before the strikers end changes.
The game will be played so that all participants are given equal opportunity regardless of age or ability.
The number one goal at all times is about participation and fun as a group while gaining the skills of the game.
Each player will bowl 2 overs per innings and bat for 4 overs with his partner (called a set) each game.
The last delivery of each over will be known as the “Danger Ball” and double the score or the penalty will be recorded (multiplied by 2).
Fielders will not be allowed within 15 meters of the striker at delivery of the ball.
All batsmen are to wear full protective equipment.
Every consideration must be given to the player’s safety at all times.
Rules of the game.
Umpiring
All cricket rules apply other than the following variants:
The L.B.W (leg before wicket) rule will not be applied.
“Wide balls” and “No balls” will not be re-bowled and will receive a 2 run penalty.
If a player is dismissed they forfeit the strike and the team is penalized 3 runs.
The umpire will oversee the marking of the score card.
The Umpire will call “Danger Ball” on the last delivery of each over and double the score or the penalty will be recorded for that delivery (multiplied by 2).
The umpire shall apply the “strike 3” rule if the striker fails to score off 3 consecutive legal deliveries, the striker forfeits the strike with no score penalty.
The umpire’s decision is final. The umpire has the right to report any unsporting behavior or non conformance to safe practice to the competition committee.
Scoring.
The game will be scored in the same manner as that of a normal cricket match only that there are no 6’s, any ball clearing the boundary will be awarded 2 runs with the striker of the ball changing ends as though a single has been taken
“Wide balls” and “No balls” will not be re-bowled and will receive a 2 run penalty.
Leg byes, byes, wides and no balls are tallied to the innings of the set in which they are incurred. Extras count to the striker.
The last delivery of each over will be known as the “Danger Ball” and double the score or the penalty will be recorded (multiplied by 2).
If a player is dismissed they forfeit the strike and the team is penalized 3 runs.
The only variant of the dismissal rule being that if a “run out” is affected the players do not change ends but still incur the 3 run penalty.
Scoring will be recorded on the Score Card provided by the WCC. The score card should be filled in as the game is being played by the umpire.
Batting.
2 players will face 4 overs each (called a set) and their group score recorded. All batsmen are to wear full protective equipment at all times whilst their set is in play.
Batsmen will swap ends if the striker has failed to make contact with the ball 3 legal balls in succession. This will be known as the “strike 3 rule”.
The two players in the next set are to be ready to take the field at the completion of the previous set and are to move to position as quickly as possible.
Bowling.
Each player will bowl 2 overs per innings. The bowling order will be determined by the team manager.
“Wide balls” and “No balls” will not be re-bowled and will receive a 2 run penalty.
2 overs will be bowled from the same end before the bowling end changes.
